Late Night Delirium

After hearing the kids fuss longer than normal, Jason went in to check on them. He told me I needed to come take a look. Normally I just roll my eyes and say, "What is it?" knowing that it's likely I've seen it about a billion times, but this time I grabbed the camera and went to take a look. This is what we found. Note: When they went to bed, they were both wearing a long one piece zip up flannel PJ set.

Remember that soup/stew thing I made a few days back that I was bragging about? Well, here are some pictures of J&A enjoying it.

Oh, and btw (by the way) our high chair days are nearly over with. I am so sick of having those bulky things in the way all the time. They make my big kitchen just seem normal. So we are soom moving to booster seats. We figure we'll get them in the practice of boosters when we go out to eat, so we aren't responsible for the mess. Haha. Only joking. They actually seem to do better in boosters. Maybe it's just cause it's the new thing. Who knows.

Where did the potato go?!?

Jason and I left the back door open while we were putting away groceries one day. I KNEW I had bought 4 white potatoes (because the I weighed them out to get 2 lbs) but when I went to put them away, there were only THREE white potatoes in there. This worried me because I know how terrible rotten potatoes smell. We started looking ALL OVER. We even looked in the trash, knowing that sometimes the kids like to throw random things away. Not in there. We looked outside. Couldn't find it. Right about the time when I was starting to second guess my sanity, I thought to myself that I should look in the watering pail that Jackson was huddled around. Sure enough, along with some grass, three grapes, four plastic spoons, and a grape vine was my lone white potato.

In an effort to cut back and save money, I've started following a blog called $5 Dinners. They have great ideas for meals that are under $5 to make. Most of the stuff they use is on sale so it sometimes ends up more...but it's still really inexpensive. Tonight I made some rice soup kind of thing. It had red and black beans, fire roasted tomatoes, tomato paste, garlic, taco seasoning, some corn and a little potato (not white haha). This turned out far better than I imagined. The kids LOVED it. I gave them about 3 crackers each and they used both their spoon and the crackers to eat their dinner. Jason and I thought it was good, too. If I were making it just for Jason and I, I would have added more spice but it was great as a mild soup for the kids.

I want to brag for a moment here. As most of you know, we've been using cloth diapers for a while now. In the last three days we've used a total of 8 disposables. For TWO kids! That's AWESOME. I really am saving us money in the long run. I know I am. Not to mention, the kids LOVE the diapers. It sounds silly, but they scream and fight when they know it's time for a disposable. When they see that I have a cloth diaper in my hand, they will literally come RUNNING for diaper change time. I like kids that LIKE to help. It makes my days so much better, not having to fight them both every few hours. I don't even mind doing all the extra laundry that comes along with it....which isn't bad at all. We don't use the dryer most times anyway and I NEVER use the dryer with the cloth diapers. We always hang dry them. It's worked out really well for us thus far, I have to admit.

I'm sorry I have no photo's to upload. I'm just about out of time. I'll post more later on. Love you all lots and lots and lots.

Jaxon's First Birthday

Shannon and Jaxon.

A friend of mine from High School, Shannon, has two kids around J&A's age. Her daughter Nicole is 28 months old and her son, Jaxon is one year old. They had his birthday party this weekend and we were invited. We had such a great time. They live in a beautiful home in South Austin with a gorgeous backyard, huge trees and plenty of TOYS! It didn't take J or A long to jump right in and enjoy themselves.Climbing up the slide the most logical way.

Nicole, who also wanted it to be HER party.

I forgot to mention the cool club house they have!! J&A tried to monopolize this sucker.

Jackson to Aiden, "Who does this chick think she is? She acts like this is her club house or something...."

Jaxon actually interested in the TOYS! Imagine that!

We had a blast. Shannon is a working Mama who has off on the weekends and has been begging us to come over for a play date. I'm thinking we are going to have to send Jason off to hang out with his friends and I'll take the boys to play at Shannon's one Saturday or Sunday soon.

Sick Babies

One night before bed we noticed that Aiden had a slight fever. He wasn't acting too sick or anything so we gave him some tylenol and put him to bed. The next morning he was fine, back to his happy normal self.

Last night we put the boys to bed and all seemed well. Then at about 9:30 pm Jackson sounded like he was awake so Jason went in to check on him and change his diaper. Jason told me he thought Jackson was hot so I took his temp and Jason was right. Jackson had a temp of 102. I sent Jason to bed with Jackson and a few hours later Jason comes out telling me that Jackson still hadn't gone to sleep. Mommy to the rescue, right?

I went in the room to love on the little man and all of a sudden he's trying to blow chunks while he's laying on his back. I pick him up and he's just vomiting everywhere. Poor thing. And he was scared, too. Jason and I thought about it and Jackson has never really ever thrown up like that. He threw up formula when he was little, but never REAL people food so I'm sure that was a whole new ballgame for him.

After cleaning us both off, we went downstairs to the couch and tried to get a little shut eye in. Jackson would drift off to sleep and then startle awake. Poor little thing. It was like that all night long until at 5 am I finally gave in and took him back to his bed where he slept till about 8:30.

You can tell he's not feeling well because all he's done all day is go from mommy to daddy and lay on us. He just wants to he held and he takes little naps all day long. We were laying in my bed trying to nap when Jackson heard Dad start the bath and then his nap time was OVER. He wanted to play in the bath. So he's now been in the bath for nearly 30 minutes. Whatever makes lil sick man happy.

I've been HUSHed

Aiden loves giving Jackson hugs. Jackson doesn't enjoy these hugs too much.

Aiden being his goofy self.

Jackson and one of his favorite hobbies.

Today we had Rachel Ray on the TV in the background...and I have to announce that I believe she is Jackson AND Aiden's first celebrity crush! They like to stare at her when she starts talking and they clap along with the audience. Well, today I asked Aiden, "Ohhh....You think Rachel Ray is preeeeetttttttyyyyyyy, dontcha?"
He replies clear as day, "Oh, hush."
I've been hushed by a 21 month old!!! Lil turd.

I don't know what's gotten into Jackson lately but he's been the CUDDLE BUG. He LOVE to hug and kiss me. Aiden likes to hug and kiss Jackson but Jackson doesn't like Aiden's hugs and kisses. Haha. I think it's more that Jackson doesn't like being knocked down accidentally by Aiden.

Cloth Diapering!

Slipper foot Aiden and Jackson sneaking some water.

Two obsessions. Balls and throwing. Put them together and you've got hours of fun.

Here's a close up look at the airplane cloth all-in-one diaper.

Check out that adorable airplane all-in-one cloth diaper! It's not the kind of cloth diaper my little brother used to wear!
And Aiden is tearing into the new cloth diaper package. We love ebay!

You know, I started this cloth diapering thing for two reasons. 1) to cut back on the cost of all the disposables we go through and 2) to help with their potty training.

I never expected that Jackson and Aiden would actually LIKE wearing them! Most times they like to run from us and make diaper changing time about as miserable as possible but when it comes to these....they see them and they RUN to us and sit down right on top of them!!! It's the oddest thing...but HEY! Anything to simplify my day.

Until I'm completely comfortable with them, I only use them after they've had their morning "poo" and we only use them at home. So far I'm extremely impressed. They seem even more absorbent than the disposables. Oh! NEVER FOR NAP TIME. They are already pro's at escaping ANY and ALL PJ's and then they rip off their diaper. Some of these diapers have snaps that I don't think they can master (yet) and some are brilliant enough to put the Velcro and snaps in back!! But....I'm still not that brave.
